Makeover #2 - The Laundry Room

Finally...the Laundry Room is finished!

Before...

After...

I just love the chocolate and light blue... I would have never dreamed I would paint a room in my house blue (probably one of my least favorite colors) but I love this! I used a shower curtain as fabric to make the closet curtain and then used the left over fabric to stretch across an artists canvas to make the "art" for the wall. An old kitchette table became the perfect folding station. And those stacking laundry baskets...well...those truly are the best laundry invention ever! They are made by Rubbermaid and are called the Stack n' Sort Laundry Basket (available at The Container Store and Do It Best hardware stores for about $11 each). I couldn't do laundry without them.

Thanks DH, Mom & Dad for helping me make my laundry room a happier place to be!

Let me know what you think!

Fabric Organization Tip

I have a closet in my sewing studio that has a rod only (no shelves). I've found that these hanging sweater organizers work perfectly to store my fabrics. Hang several side-by-side on a rod and you have instant shelving at a fraction of the price of purchasing/building shelves. Hope this tip is helpful!

My new favorite tool.

How did I every sew without this Dritz Quilting Chalk Pen! Oh my gosh...I love it! Forget marking pens or chalk pencils...this thing rocks! I bought mine in the Chalk Cartridge Set (which also includes pink and blue chalk so you can see your markings on all materials) after seeing it on one of my fave blogs Some of a Kind. The pen style holder is perfect...no chalky hands and no sharpening! Love, love, love it! I'm gifting one of these to my sewing friend at work. You gotta try it...really.

It's raining...perfect day for a baby shower!

Ugh...I have to work AGAIN tonight. However, we're having a baby shower at work for one of the nurses! I love baby showers...lots of ooo's and ahh's and good food. I made some bibs (Bend-the-rules sewing pattern) and some burp cloths (A Chelsea Morning tutorial here). Hope she likes them! By the way, these projects definitely fit in the 30 minute project category!

I have really had my eye on an embroidery machine that is separate from my sewing machine...I don't want an all-in-one sewing/embroidery unit because I want to be able to still sew while the other machine is doing embroidery (does this make sense? I want to maximize my sewing time!). Does anyone have any embroidery machine suggestions??? I've never used an embroidery machine (aside from the demo at my Bernina dealer) so I really have no idea what to even look for in a machine. Can anyone give me pointers, please?

Happy (Belated) Valentine's Day!

Happy Belated Valentine's Day! This is the gift I made for my sweetie. The takeout box was filled full of homemade chocolates (how fun to make!). Inside the cute little cube (wee valentine box pattern is here) I placed a handmade coupon good for dinner of his choice (he chose sushi) and a movie also of his choice (he chose Mr. Woodcock - which by the way, isn't that funny). We had a great day after Valentine's Day date (I had to work Valentine's Day). As for what my sweetie did for me...well, I have to say I have the best husband ever! DH put a card on my steering wheel so I would see it first thing when I came out from work on Valentine's Day morning and a rose in a vase in the cup holder. How cute is that?
I just realized I haven't posted in a week (gasp...gosh it really has been that long)...but in my defense I really have been working A LOT lately (70+ hrs per week). I am ALMOST finished with the laundry room makeover. I am so excited to show you! I plan to take pictures tomorrow. :)

Vintage Finds

I have been working A LOT lately. So today (my day off) my Sis, So & I went to the antiques district and just look at what I found! I love vintage buttons and linens. The two white buttons are actually glass buttons...how cool is that? The blue linens are actually napkins and the little jar of blue buttons was just too cute to pass up. I can't wait to find the perfect project for these little cuties. Rummaging through all the antiques got me in the mood for some good yard sales. I can't wait for spring...blooming flowers & yard sales!

Laundry room makeover is almost done...finishing touches are going up. Probably will be posting it later in the week.

Also, Adrienne from Some of a Kind thinks my blog deserved the E award you see over in the right column. Thanks, Adrienne! Everyone should check out her blog which I think is excellent.
